A fine WordPress.com site
Super proud to show off our cover story in StreetWise! StreetWise is a street magazine sold by people without homes or those at-risk for homelessness in Chicago. In 2003, it had the largest readership of any such publication in the country, and it remains one of the largest street newspapers in the nation.
Topics in the magazine cover art, poetry, events, local businesses, and a range of current and progressive issues. About 200 vendors sell approximately 20,000 magazines weekly—and sometimes the vendors themselves write the stories, which is even more awesome. The vendors buy the magazine for 90 cents each and sell them for $2, keeping the profit. You can pay more than $2, of course!
Anyway, even if you don’t pick up a copy this week, consider friending your local vendor and being part of the StreetWise movement. Check out our story below.
